The famous rule says to keep three copies of your data, on two different types of storage media, with one copy off-site — spreading copies this way means a single disaster, whether a failed drive, a house fire, or ransomware, can't wipe out every copy at once.
The other two options are wordplay nonsense built from the numbers in the rule — praying or timing a backup to a specific date and hour has no bearing on actual data redundancy.
A common real-world version is keeping your original files on your computer, a second copy on an external drive, and a third in cloud storage — and, as with ransomware defense, periodically testing that you can actually retrieve files from each copy matters as much as making them.
