A strange little plant snaps its leaves shut like a trap the instant a bug lands inside it.
A Venus flytrap lives in soil poor in nutrients, so it snaps shut on insects touching its trigger hairs and slowly digests them, absorbing what it cannot get from the ground.
It does not just tickle bugs and free them, since then it would get no nutrients, and it does not use them to build roots, the nutrients are absorbed through the leaf itself.
Even though it eats bugs, a flytrap still makes its own food from sunlight, the insects are more of a vitamin boost than its main meal.
