The longer a chat with an AI drags on, the more it seems to quietly forget what you told it near the start.
Long conversations gradually fill up the AI's working context, and once it's crowded with turns of back-and-forth, the model can lose track of instructions given much earlier — the practical fix is asking it to summarize the key points so far and then starting a fresh conversation seeded with that summary, which gives the model a clean, compact context to work from again.
Pressing on the screen or typing in all caps doesn't change how the underlying system processes context length — both are frustration responses rather than technical fixes for the actual cause of the drift.
This same 'summarize and restart' pattern shows up inside more advanced AI agent systems too, where long-running tasks periodically compress their own history so they can keep working without running out of context space.
