Gravity quietly compresses parts of your body over the course of a day, then lets them spring back overnight while you sleep.
People are taller in the morning because cartilage discs between spinal vertebrae compress slightly under gravity throughout the day. Overnight, lying down takes pressure off the spine, letting discs rehydrate and expand, restoring the lost height by morning.
Height does not stay exactly the same all day, this cycle happens to nearly everyone, and people are not taller at night, the opposite is true, height peaks upon waking and decreases through the day.
The difference is usually around a centimeter, small enough most never notice, but astronauts in microgravity experience a much more dramatic version, growing noticeably taller during extended spaceflight.
