Fixed wireless access uses the same towers and radio tech powering mobile phones, but points a stationary receiver box, often mounted near a window, at the nearest tower to deliver broadband. That box converts the cellular signal into standard Wi-Fi or wired service inside, so no fiber or cable trench needs digging to the property.
Mobile roaming is a phone connecting to another carrier abroad, unrelated to home broadband. Dial-up is the old, much slower phone-line connection that fixed wireless has effectively replaced, not resembled.
It has been especially valuable in rural regions where running fiber over long distances is prohibitively expensive, letting carriers reach new customers by upgrading existing towers instead of trenching for miles.
