Look at a square block sitting on your desk, with all its flat sides and sharp corners.
A square has four straight sides all exactly the same length, and where each pair meets it forms a sharp point called a corner, giving it four corners total.
A shape with 3 corners is a triangle, with only three sides. A shape with 5 corners is a pentagon, one more side and corner than a square.
Squares show up everywhere, from tiles to windows, partly because equal sides and right-angle corners make them easy to fit together neatly.
