Bang a drum and put your hand on its top.
The drum makes sound because it is shaking, or vibrating. When you hit the drumhead, it moves back and forth super fast, and that motion pushes the air around it in waves that travel to your ears, which your brain reads as sound.
A drum being cold or heavy has nothing to do with whether it makes noise — those are just properties of the material, not what creates the sound.
You can actually feel vibrations yourself: gently touch your throat while you hum, and you'll feel your voice box shaking, working just like that drum!
