It wasn't for swimming, since these dinosaurs lived on land, not water, and it wasn't to scare birds either. The long neck's real job was simply reaching yummy leaves.
Some long necks stretched over 12 meters, and they stayed surprisingly light thanks to hollow, air-filled pockets inside the neck bones, kind of like how bird bones work today!
