geography
Spanning nearly half the globe from west to east, one country's clocks tell such wildly different times that its far ends barely share a working day.
Russia spans 11 time zones, more than any other country on Earth, stretching from Kaliningrad near the Baltic Sea all the way to Kamchatka close to the Pacific Ocean. Because the country is so wide from west to east, clocks in its far corners can be many hours apart from each other.
Six and three time zones would only describe a country a fraction of Russia's width, since a nation spanning nearly half the globe east to west needs far more zones than that to keep local clocks reasonably matched to the sun overhead.
Workers on opposite ends of Russia can be starting their morning while colleagues elsewhere are already heading to bed, which makes coordinating anything across the whole country a genuine scheduling challenge.
