A volcano is a mountain, or opening in the ground, where hot melted rock from deep inside Earth pushes up and spills out. Once it reaches the surface, that melted rock is called lava.
A glacier is a slow-moving river of packed ice and snow, not fire or melted rock, and a canyon is a deep valley carved by water or wind over time, with no eruptions at all.
Underground, that melted rock is called magma, only earning the name lava once it actually erupts, showing how the same material gets a new name depending on where it is.
