After a rainy afternoon, the sun comes out and a colorful arch of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple appears in the sky.
A rainbow appears when sunlight enters tiny raindrops still floating in the air. As light passes through, it bends and splits into its colors, then bounces back toward your eyes, spreading into the arch you see.
A comet is a chunk of ice and dust traveling through space, unrelated to sunlight bending through raindrops. A cloudburst is just a sudden heavy shower, which can set up a rainbow but isn't the arch itself.
Rainbows always appear opposite the sun, which is why you need the sun behind you and rain in front to spot one.
