Spicy fermented cabbage is a favorite side dish that's served with almost every meal in one country.

Which country does kimchi come from?

South Korea
Kimchi is a traditional Korean dish made from cabbage and spices, and it's eaten at nearly every meal in South Korea!

Kimchi is a traditional Korean side dish made mainly from fermented napa cabbage or radish, mixed with seasonings like chili pepper, garlic, and ginger. Fermenting the vegetables gives kimchi its tangy, spicy flavor and lets it keep well for a long time, which is why it appears on Korean tables at nearly every meal, from breakfast to dinner.

China and Japan have their own famous pickled and fermented vegetable dishes, but kimchi specifically, with its signature red chili seasoning, is a Korean creation and cultural staple rather than something that originated in either neighboring country.

Korean households traditionally made huge batches of kimchi together each autumn in an event called kimjang, storing it in clay pots or special refrigerators to last through the winter.
